Joplin 6, Kansas City 5
The Joplin Blasters fought their way out of an early 5-1 hole with five unanswered runs in the final five innings to claim a 6-5 win against the Kansas City T-Bones.
Joplin scored their first run of the game in the top of the fourth inning as 1B Matt Padgett scored on a sacrifice fly but in the bottom of the inning, the T-Bones added two more runs to take a 5-1 lead. In the fifth, CF Oscar Mesa scored on an error and SSMaikol Gonzalez scored on a sac fly. In the sixth, LF Mitch Glasser drew a bases-loaded walk and in the seventh the Blasters took the lead as DH Jake Taylor scored on a sac fly and RF Steven Tinoco scored on an error.
Reliever Carlos Fuentes picked up the win for his 2.1 innings of work. He did not allow a run or a hit and issued one strikeout.
Amarillo 12, Grand Prairie 2
The Amarillo Thunderheads closed out a three-game sweep of the Grand Prairie AirHogs with a commanding 12-2 win.
Eight different Thunderheads registered hits in the game and five of them had multi-hit afternoons. LFJordan Guida led the way as he went 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. RF Logan Vick also had a pair of RBI as he went 2-for-4. Three other Thunderheads — CF Dexter Kjerstad, 2B Ricardo Rodriguezand C Corey Bass — each had two hits and two runs scored.
For Grand Prairie, RF Ronnie Richardson had a team-high two hits and was responsible for both of his team’s RBI as he hit a two-run home run in the fourth.
Laredo 7, Wichita 6
The Laredo Lemurs outlasted the Wichita Wingnuts 7-6 to take the final game of the three game set. The Wingnuts won both of the first two matchups.
Both teams jumped out hot with three runs in the first inning. Laredo plated another run in the top of the third but Wichita took the lead in the bottom of the frame when CF Nick Van Stratten singled home two runs. Laredo tied the score in the fifth when 1B Travis Denker reached on an error to allow RF Denis Phipps to score.
In the top of the eighth, LF Ty Morrison doubled and 3B Juan Silverio scored on the play to give the Lemurs the lead. In the ninth, Denker hit a solo shot to give the Lemurs a two-run lead and that proved to be critical as 1B David Espinosa hit a solo home run of his own in the bottom of the inning but that was the final run of the game.
Fargo-Moorhead 12, Gary SouthShore 3
The Gary SouthShore RailCats took an early lead but couldn’t keep pace once the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks put their bats to work and the RedHawks claimed a 12-3 win.
Gary SouthShore plated a pair of runs in the top of the second to open the scoring but the RedHawks scored five in the bottom of the inning and never trailed after that. Five different RedHawks had multi-hit games and seven different batters registered RBI. RF Joe Dunigan had a game-high three hits and two RBI. He hit his 12th home run of the year to lead off the fifth inning.
Starting pitcher Tyler Herron allowed just three hits in eight innings to earn the win on the mound. He retired 12 batters with strikeouts.
Ottawa 7, Winnipeg 6
The Ottawa Champions took the lead with four runs in the sixth inning and held off a late surge to edge the Winnipeg Goldeyes 7-6.
In the sixth, the Goldeyes plated three runs in the top of the frame to take a 5-3 lead but in the bottom of the inning C Daniel Grauer and 2B Albert Cartwright hit back-to-back RBI singles to tie the game and they both scored when SS Daniel Bick reached on an error. In the top of the ninth, SS Casio Grider drew a walk and came around to score when CF Reggie Abercrombie — who was 3-for-5 — singled but Reliever Alan DeRatt retired the next to batters in order to end the game.
The save marks 21 on the year for DeRatt, the second best mark in the CanAm League. CF Sebastien Boucher had a game-high three RBI as he went 2-for-4.
