Amarillo 7, Joplin 2 (Game 1 – 7 innings)
Amarillo used a huge fifth inning to take down Joplin 7-4 in the first game of a doubleheader. Joplin got on the board in the third inning with a sacrifice fly by 2B Mitch Glasser and an RBI-single by 1B Carlos Ramirez. In the fourth inning, the Thunderheads tied the game at 2-2 with home runs by SS Juan Martinez and 2B Geraldo Valentin.
Then in the fifth inning, Amarillo had five runs – they took a 7-2 lead when 3B Tyler Urps scored on a wild pitch, RF Logan Vick hit an RBI-single, Martinez hit a sacrifice fly and a two-run homer by DH Stefan Gartrell. Joplin cut the lead to 7-4 in the bottom of the sixth, after an RBI-groundout by SS Aaron Brill and RBI-double by CF Oscar Mesa, but no other rally could be summoned.
Joplin 5, Amarillo 1 (Game 2 – 7 innings)
The Blasters’ defense held Amarillo to six hits and split the doubleheader with a 5-1 victory. After no scoring through three innings, Joplin RF Jesus Solorzano hit a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead. The Blasters then had bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning. Carlos Ramirez drew an RBI-walk to make it 2-0, but that’s the only run the Blasters could bring home in the inning.
In the sixth inning, Amarillo SS Tyler Urps hit an RBI-single to make it 2-1 Joplin. But the Blasters moved ahead 5-1 in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a two-RBI double by 2B Mitch Glasser and an RBI-single by 1B Yasser Gomez.
Kansas City 11, Lincoln 1
The T-Bones had 19 hits in its dominating 11-1 win over the Saltdogs Thursday night. Kansas City went ahead 1-0 in the first inning when LF Adam Bailey hit an RBI-double. The T-Bones next scored three runs in the fourth inning to get a 4-0 advantage – C Alex Marquez had an RBI-single and 3B Nate Tenbrink added a two-RBI single. In the sixth, SS Ryan Cavan hit an RBI-single to give Kansas City a 5-0 advantage.
T-Bones added a run in the seventh to make it 6-0. In the seventh, Saltdog RF Brian Joynt hit a sacrifice fly to make it 6-1. Kansas City extended its lead to 11-1 in the top of the ninth inning. Four different T-Bone batters had an RBI in the big inning.
Gary SouthShore 14, Winnipeg 7
Gary SouthShore nearly had 30 hits in its explosive 14-7 victory against Winnipeg Thursday night. After an RBI-single by DH Jaime Del Valle in the first inning, 2B J.D. Pulfer hit a three-run homer in the second to give the RailCats a 4-0 lead. Winnipeg 2B Brad Boyer made it 4-1 in the second inning with an RBI-double. In the next inning, Gary SoutShore piled on four more runs. 3B Jose Sermo, Pulfer, and Del Valle all had RBI’s in the frame.
Winnipeg made it 8-3 RailCats in the fourth inning when RF Jon Weber hit an RBI-double and Boyer hit an RBI-single. But in the fifth and sixth innings combined, the RailCats scored five runs and push forward to a 13-4 lead and the Goldeyes could never recover.
Wichita 9, Grand Prairie 1
Wichita held Grand Prairie to just five hits in its 9-1 victory Thursday night. In the first, RF David Espinosa hit a solo home run to give Wichita a 1-0 lead. But Grand Prairie DH Brian Myrow hit a solo homer in the bottom half to tie it at 1-1. C Jon Nester joined the home run party in the second inning, hitting a solo shot to give Wichita a 2-1 lead. Then in the eighth inning, the Winguts exploded for five runs – Nester had an RBI-walk, LF Harrison Kain had an RBI-single, and SS Luis Hernandez had a three-RBI double. In the ninth, the Wingnuts extended its lead to 9-1 with two more runs on the board.
Wichita starting pitcher Jon Link went six innings gave up two hits, one earned run, and struck-out nine batters. AirHogs starting pitcher Bennett Whitmore went seven innings, five hits, two earned runs, and struck-out four batters.
Laredo 7, Sioux City 7 (Suspended – Fourth Inning)
The game between Laredo and Sioux City was suspended due to rain. The game will pick up tomorrow in the top of the fourth inning with a 7-7 tie at 6:05 pm Central Time.
St. Paul 6, Sioux Falls 5
St. Paul used two runs in the eighth to slip past Sioux Falls 6-5 Thursday. In the third, Saints CF Alonzo Harris hit a solo homer, C Vinny DiFazio hit an RBI-double and 1B Angel Songco hit a sacrifice fly to give St. Paul a 3-0 edge. In the fourth inning, Sioux Falls cut the lead to 3-2 when DH Brian Humphries hit an RBI-double and C Ryan Stock hit a sacrifice fly. The Canaries then tied it in the fifth inning with an RBI-single by RF Jason Repko.
DiFazio hit an RBI-double in the seventh to give St. Paul a 4-3 lead. But Canaries SS Vickash Ramjit had an RBI-single and Repko hit a solo home run to gain a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the seventh. Then St. Paul scored two more runs in the eighth to take a 6-5 lead.
