Laredo Law Enforcement Officers to Escort Flame of Hope to Special Olympics Texas Summer Games in Arlington

LAREDO, Texas— Law enforcement officers from the Laredo area will gather at the Webb County Commissioners Court on Tuesday, May 19, for a press conference and the kickoff of their annual Flame of Hope Torch Run from Laredo to Arlington for the Special Olympics Texas Summer Games.
The ceremony will start at 9:30 a.m. The Torch Runners will light the Flame of Hope and start on their 436-mile journey to Arlington.
The Torch Runners also will gather at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 20 at the IH-35 North Checkpoint. They will set off from there to Cotulla, where they will pass the torch to runners in Dilley, Pearsall and San Antonio.

More than 400 law enforcement officers and first responders are expected in Arlington to deliver the Flame of Hope and to participate in the Opening Ceremonies. This year is the 46th anniversary of the Special Olympics Texas Summer Games. More than 3,100 athletes from across the state will participate in the competition, featuring events in athletics (track and field), basketball, cycling, gymnastics, soccer and tennis.
