tamiu(Laredo, Texas)-Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) Lamar Bruni Vergara Planetarium celebrates its 10th Anniversary this year and the community is invited to a day of family friendly activities Saturday, April 25 from 12-6 p.m.

Peter Davis, Planetarium director, said the celebration, including food, face painting, fun and crafts for children, is open to the public.

Planetarium shows will run every 45 minutes and feature “The Accidental Astronauts: An Earth Sun Moon Adventure” and “Cosmic Adventures.” Tickets are $3 for both adults and children.

“The Accidental Astronauts: An Earth Sun Moon Adventure” follows the adventures of Cy and Annie and their dog Armstrong as they embark on an unexpected journey into space.  The characters explore the earth, sun and moon system with a wisecracking starship computer and bounce along with them on the surface of the moon. They get up close and personal with a solar storm and gain a new appreciation of earth.

The film is a space adventure for all ages. The show is also designed to cover many space curriculum subjects in the low-to-mid elementary school levels.

The second show, “Cosmic Adventures” takes audiences on a roller coaster ride from the moon through the universe, our galaxy and our solar system. This high-speed adventure will immerse viewers in some of the most amazing sites in the universe.

Davis said Planetarium visitors will enjoy a full-dome viewing experience with an updated and newly installed projection system.

“If you have a big screen, HDTV at home, our viewing experience provides eight times the resolution of that, “ explained Davis, “With the new projection system, the images are 10 times brighter than they used to be. We encourage everyone to visit us and celebrate the Planetarium’s 10th Anniversary, enjoy our new and improved system providing a total immersive experience and have fun while learning about the universe.”
