Blue Bell Product Recall

Courtesy City of Laredo Health Department,

Laredo, TX—The City of Laredo Health Department continues to monitor the Blue Bell Creameries ice cream product recall. This recall is due to products potentially contaminated with Listeria during the pasteurization process at the manufacturing plant. As a result, five persons became ill in Kansas and there have been three (3) associated deaths. Although none of the product codes have been found to date in Laredo, we want the public to check these codes and if found to take them back to the place of purchase. Do not consume product associated with these codes.

Listeriosis is a bacterial infection caused by eating food contaminated with Listeria.  For many there maybe no major symptoms. When symptoms do appear, they may include: fever, muscle aches, nausea or diarrhea. Those most at risk of illness are adults, the elderly, pregnant women in their third trimester, infants and those with underlying health conditions.  Listeria is a treatable condition by a physician.   The CLHD does want to remind the public that they should always exercise good hygiene and good food management when handling and cooking foods, fruits and vegetables.  Consumers should check their freezers for any of these products:
