Laredo, TX – As part of a continuous commitment to reduce and prevent impaired driving, particularly during football season, the District Attorney’s Office is promoting its 6th annual designated driver initiative: Make the Right Call. On Super Bowl Sunday, February 1, between the hours of 8 p.m. to 12 midnight, the DA’s office will offer free taxi cab rides from any public establishment.

The designated driver initiative is a proactive effort to keep Laredo roads safe and to prevent football fans from driving under the influence of alcohol. In 2013, 1,743 alcohol related traffic crashes occurred in Texas on football game days. Out of these crashes 41 people lost their lives because of drinking and driving.

Local restaurants and bars will participate in promoting this initiative by displaying publicity posters, distributing promotional materials and encouraging patrons to call International Taxi for a free ride home.

For the past five years, the District Attorney’s Office has partnered with International Taxi Company to coordinate this initiative. Last year, 19 people took advantage of this program and prevented crashes and fatalities by having a sober-ride game plan. Football fans can call 956.723.9177 for a free taxi ride as long as they call from any local establishment.

Make the right call this Super Bowl Sunday. Enjoy the game, but most importantly drink responsibly.
