(Laredo, Tx)-On November 4, 2014,  the Los Obispos middle school community helped
the Webb County Sheriff’s Office collect toy teddy bears for the 3rd annual
Share A Bear project.

The project collects the stuffed toys so that law
enforcement officials can give small children a token of comfort when
responding to emergency calls at their home.

It has been shown that children
who receive stuffed toy animals during traumatic events or natural disasters
are better able to control their fears and anxiety. Janette Vasquez,
Communities in Schools Project Coordinator at Los Obispos, said that
students did a great job of gathering new and slightly used bears for the
cause.

“The students enjoyed being part of something that helps so many
other young children”, said Vazquez.  A total of 70 stuffed teddys and other
stuffed animals were collected at Los Obispos.
