(Laredo, Tx)-Internationally recognized pianist Dr. Anthony Tobin will return to Texas A&M International University as part of the Master Performers @TAMIU Series Friday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall.

Admission is free and open to the public.  Dr. Tobin will interpret works of W.A. Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven and Frederic Chopin.

A Steinway artist, Tobin started touring in 1999 as a collaborative pianist for eurythmy, a movement form that attempts to shape musical notes, phrases and harmonies. He went on yearly, month-long tours, which involved 30 or more performances, made connections and became adept at playing under all circumstances.

After a European tour in 2008, Tobin started solo tours of Switzerland and The Netherlands and performed with violinists and cellists. Some of the tours featured Tobin’s performances in which he played works of Claude Debussy with videos he made of locations relevant to the composer. G. Henle Publishers featured a version of Tobin’s Debussy film online and at their booth at the 2012 Frankfurt Musik Messe.

In 2014, he performed an all-Debussy recital on Debussy’s piano in Brive-la-Gaillarde France and an all-Mozart program on a Mirko Weiss replica of a Walther piano.

He graduated from Ithaca High School in New York and was a scholarship student at Tanglewood. Tobin studied piano with Malcolm Bilson at Cornell University and won the Junior Baldwin Piano Competition.

He received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano from the University of Texas at Austin. His Master of Music was earned from the University of Southern California. He received a Bachelor of Music with Distinction from the Eastman School of Music.

In addition to maintaining a private studio for all ages in Austin, Texas, Tobin has taught at the University of Southern California, the University of Texas, Laredo Community College, Kirby Hall School, Regents School of Austin and for the motion picture industry.
