Centeno Elementary Principal and Students Meet Reading Challenge

(Laredo, Tx)-In recognition of National Young Reader’s Week, Centeno elementary Principal Laura P. De Los Santos accepted the Pizza Hut Bookit challenge to spend a day Reading on the Roof of her campus. The chilly temperatures of November 14 did nothing to cool the enthusiasm of PK -5th grade students who took turns listening to De Los Santos (attired as Captain America) narrate the feature book, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul” by Jeff Kinney.
Pizza Hut’s Bookit program gives campuses across the nation an opportunity to win 101 copies of the featured book for their library by posting photos and videos of their Reading on the Roof activities on social media. At the conclusion of each session, De Los Santos challenged students to read more during the month of November than they had in October, a total of 11,142 books. National Young Reader’s Week is celebrated annually, Nov 10-14.
