(Laredo, Tx)-The United Middle School Orchestra had 25 students advance to the All Region Orchestra. Through a rigorous audition process, the UMS orchestra members performed individually, for a panel of judges, their prepared musical selections. It was through this audition that 25 members qualified to be certified members of the Texas Music Education Association Music Region XIV Middle School Orchestra. Ray Pena, UMS orchestra director stated that UMS had the most qualifying members from all schools who competed.
UMS also had students qualifying for 1st chair in 1st and 2nd violin sections, as well as cello and string bass sections. These students will now perform a concert along with other Region Orchestra members from our City and Corpus Christi on November 8th at 5:00 PM at the Student Activity Complex Auditorium. This concert will be free and open to the public. For more information contact the UISD Fine Arts department at 473-7121.
