Suspect also attempts to impersonate officer
Laredo, TX (Webb County) – Webb County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man early Saturday morning who not only claimed to be an officer, but part of a cartel as well.
Around 4:40 a.m. today, Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to a stabbing at a home on Barrera Road in the San Carlos subdivision. When Deputies arrived to the scene, the victim told authorities he was outside of his home with a friend when two men wearing ski masks entered his property claiming to work for a cartel. That’s when a fight broke out and the suspect stabbed the victim with a knife. During the scuffle, the victim was able to unmask one of the men whom he identified as his neighbor, Carlos Alberto Flores, who then also identified himself as a police officer and claimed back up was en route.
Soon after the struggle, Flores and the second unknown suspect fled the scene. The victim was taken to Laredo Medical Center with a stab wound to his back and a minor abrasion to his head.
Flores was arrested shortly after at his home in the 7500 block of Kay Bailey. The suspect faces charges for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Impersonating a Public Servant. Flores remains at the Webb County Jail without bond.
“We will not tolerate anyone impersonating a public servant and terrorizing our community claiming to be a part of a cartel,” said Sheriff Martin Cuellar. “We are looking further into this case and more arrests are pending.”
