Laredo CBP Officers Seize Over $130,000 in Crystal Meth from Pedestrian

Laredo, Texas –U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Laredo Port of Entry stopped seven pounds of alleged methamphetamines before they could be walked into the U.S. The case resulted in the pedestrian’s arrest.
“This is the second interception of serious narcotics within a span of days, that CBP officers have found on persons attempting to walk them across our borders,” said Laredo CBP Acting Port Director, Joseph Misenhelter. “With the hundreds of people that traverse daily through Laredo’s only pedestrian bridge, it is evident that our CBP officers are ever-vigilant and dedicated to protecting the nation’s borders.”
The seizure occurred yesterday, Oct. 6, 2014 at the Gateway to the Americas Bridge (Bridge One) when CBP officers encountered a 20-year-old Mexican citizen from Puebla, Mexico who presented himself for inspection. The man was referred for a secondary exam that resulted in CBP officers finding four packages of alleged crystal meth weighing a total of seven pounds amongst the bags that the man had. The alleged crystal meth has an estimated value of $136,685.
CBP officers arrested the man and seized the alleged narcotics. The man and the case were then turned over to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents for further investigation.
CBP’s Laredo Port of Entry is part of the South Texas Campaign, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations.
