Laredo, TX (Webb County) — A traffic stop by Webb County Sheriff’s Office deputies Saturday morning led to the confiscation of $440,088 in US currency.
At approximately 11 a.m. Saturday, the deputy pulled over a 2003 blue Dodge four-door pick-up truck near the Laredo International Fair and Exposition grounds on Highway 59 following a traffic violation.
After questioning the driver, the deputy proceeded to inspect the vehicle and discovered the cash hidden in a man-made compartment near the center console in the front seat. The money was concealed in 26 bundles.
The case is being investigated for money laundering.
“The flow of illicit money, unfortunately, is prevalent on our streets,” said Sheriff Martin Cuellar. “But thanks to the efforts and vigilance of our deputies, we are making sure that this money does not end up in the wrong hands.”
