Laredo, TX (Webb County) – A joint effort between the Webb County Sheriff’s Office and a federal law enforcement agency led to the arrest of a fugitive.

A warrant issued July 8, 2014 for Demetrio Cedillo-Gonzalez, 35, alerted authorities he was wanted for attempted murder in South Carolina. The report indicated Cedillo reportedly stabbed a man his neck causing extensive injuries which could have led to death.

The Webb County Sheriff’s Office Civil and Warrants division in collaboration with the U.S. Marshals Taskforce gathered sufficient details indicating the suspect was in Laredo. Upon further investigation, officials were able to pinpoint the exact location were this individual was at. Around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, deputies arrested Cedillo on the 7100 block of Santa Maria in west Laredo.

“Due to the proximity to Mexico, this was a significant arrest,” said Sheriff Martin Cuellar. “The joint collaboration stopped this fugitive on his tracks, as he possibly could’ve crossed into Mexico.”

Cedillo remains at the Webb County jail on no bond. Extradition to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office in South Carolina is pending.
