Penprase’s Slam Lifts RedHawks

Laredo, TX – With the score tied at four, Zach Penprase came to the plate with the bases loaded in the eighth and immediately turned on the first pitch offering by Chad Povich, hitting a grand slam to make it an 8-4 RedHawks lead. The RedHawks would score another run in the ninth to make it a 9-4 final on opening night at Uni-Trade Stadium.
Taylor Stanton got the start for the RedHawk throwing six complete, giving up three runs, on five hits, with a walk, and three strikeouts. The biggest problem for the RedHawks starter was the long ball. Stanton gave up two solo homers to Devin Goodwin, who went three for four on the night. J.P. Ramirez also picked up a solo home run in the seventh that ended Stanton’s evening.
Joe Harris (1-0) picked up the win for the RedHawks pitching the last out of the seventh and putting up a silent eighth in relief, for one and a third innings of work, will giving up a hit.
Chad Povich (0-1) takes the loss for the Lemurs going an inning, giving four runs, on two hits, with two walks, and two strikeouts.
The loss for the Lemurs was their first on opening day going back to 2012.
The Lemurs and the RedHawks will play the second game of a four game set tomorrow night at 7:30pm at Uni-Trade Stadium. The Lemurs will send Mike Piazza to the mound and the RedHawks will counter with Luis Sanz.
