Laredo CBP Officers Seize More Than Two Tons of Marijuana at World Trade Bridge

4138MJWTBLAREDO, TexasU.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Laredo Port of Entry this weekend seized more than two tons of marijuana hidden in a shipment of kitchen parts during a routine inspection at World Trade Bridge. 

 “Our frontline CBP officers utilized their targeting skills along with our canines and technology and the end result was a significant amount of marijuana intercepted in the commercial environment,” said Jose R. Uribe, CBP Acting Port Director, Laredo. 

 The seizure occurred on Friday, March 28, 2014 when CBP officers working at the World Trade Bridge referred a 1995 Volvo tractor hauling a manifested shipment of laminated range hoods for a secondary inspection. During the examination, CBP officers discovered 2,000 packages containing a total of 4,138 pounds of alleged marijuana comingled with the commodity. The estimated street value for the marijuana is $3.3 million. CBP officers seized the narcotics and the tractor trailer.
