(Laredo, Tx)-United ISD Kicked Off “Lunch with a Law Enforcement Official Program!” Monday was the Kick-Off to United ISD’s new program “Have Lunch with a Law Enforcement Official Program,” implemented district-wide. United ISD is the first District in Texas to implement this program. Lunch for the Students at Colonel Santos Benavides Elementary was out of the ordinary as they enjoyed lunch with Ray Garner Chief of Laredo Police Department and Clemente Camarillo, Interim Chief of UISD Police.
“I felt really safe with them here in the cafeteria and happy that they were able to eat with us too, “ Said Sofia Edith Pena, 3rd grader. “This allows us to interact with our children so that we can build trust and learn that we are human,” said Chief Garner. He added, “It puts the presence of police officers on campus which will enhance the safety and security that UISD already has. United ISD encourages all law enforcement officials to join our students for lunch any day until the end of school year. “This is a great opportunity to engage with our young children and advocate law enforcement presence by building a positive atmosphere,” said Clemente Camarillo, UISD Interim Chief of Police.
