Workshops open to anyone interesting in writing, performing in own plays
(Laredo, Tx)- The Laredo Public Library will be offering a new, original and creative theatre alternative to writers and actors interested in writing and performing their own plays. The Writers on the Stage Project is a non-traditional, interactive drama concept intended to be didactic, entertaining and reflective.
“The idea is to set on the stage Mosaicos on the Border – real life scenes about life on the border- performed by anyone who is interested in writing and/or acting,” pointed out Marco Franco,* the workshop facilitator. “Once the plays are ready to be enacted, we’ll use the Traveling Theatre, Teatro Rodante, concept to take our Teatros outside the Laredo Public Library walls – to the colonias, the nursing homes, the plazas, to any forum where there might be an audience interested in experiencing our performances as spect-actors. With this new theatre project, the Laredo Public Library is also becoming our local Casa de la Cultura, a hub that not only advances literacy, but also fosters and promotes the development of the arts, including drama,” continued Franco.
The Writers on the Stage workshops will take place at the Laredo Public library every second and fourth Sunday of the month, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm starting March 9 through June 22, 2014. See the dates below for a schedule of performances. The performance of two mini-plays Mosaicos on the Border, in English, and Teatro del Migrante: Historias de Migracion, Sobrevivencia y Adaptacion in Spanish, written in the workshops, will be on Sunday, July 13, 2014, at 2:00 pm at the Laredo Public Library.
All local writers and aspiring actors and actresses, 18 years and older, are invited to sign up and experience these free workshops.
