UISD Reminds All About Upcoming Magnet Program Application Deadline

(Laredo, Tx)- The United Independent School District would like to remind all 8th graders about the upcoming Jan. 31 deadline to turn in Magnet School applications for the 2014-15 school year. Students have the option to choose from the Magnet for Health and Science located at Alexander High School; the Magnet for Engineering and Technology located at United High School, or the Magnet of Global Business and Advanced Technology located at United South High School.
Applications are available at the counselor’s office of all UISD middle schools and high schools. They can also be found on line under the Advanced Academics Department webpage at http://www.uisd.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Magnet-Application-English-2013-2014.pdf
The criteria to apply for a UISD Magnet program is as follows:
• Reside in UISD boundaries (with proof of enrollment).
• Be an incoming 9th grade campus for the 2014–2015 school year.
• Have a composite grade average of B (80%) for (math, science, language arts, reading,
and social studies) (based on January 2014 report card in the 8th grade and the
final report card in the 7th grade).
• Score within the appropriate range on the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) –
based on the ranking of all applicants.
Additionally, each applicant must complete the mandatory assessment on one of
the following dates (no exceptions).

9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
February 15, 2014
SAC Rooms 1 & 2
9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
March 1, 2014
AHS Campus
9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
