Poet Dr. Carmen Tafolla Skypes with UISD Students

(Laredo, Tx)-On Friday, November 15, Dr. Carmen Tafolla, (recognized as the first Poet Laureate of the City of San Antonio by Mayor Julian Castro) skyped with Spainsh III students from all four UISD high schools. Dr. Tafolla discussed her approach to writing , citing the significance and impact of Hispanic culture in literature.
Dr. Tafolla is the renowned author of more than twenty books for children and adults including “The Holy Tortilla and a Pot of Beans”, and is the recipient of the Americas Award, two Tomas Rivera Book Awards, two ALA Notable Books, a Charlotte Zolotow, the Art of Peace Award and Top Ten Books for Babies. Her works have also been recognized by the National Association of Chicana and Chicano Studies.
