United ISD Bowl A Thon Kicks-Off Fundraising Efforts for Annual Toy Giveaway

uisdCourtesy Alex Meyer,

(Laredo, Tx)-United ISD is gearing up for their annual Toy Giveaway with a series
of fundraising events. All proceeds will be used to buy toys for many of
United ISD’s underprivileged children, many of whom would not otherwise
receive a holiday gift this December. Recipients of toys are pre-selected by
staff at their respective campuses.

On Tuesday, October 1, 2013, United ISD raised a total of $20,000.00
at their first annual Strike Up Holiday Cheer Holiday Bowl-a -Thon at Jett
Bowl North.  Over 200 bowlers of all ages donned their team shirts and came
out to play for one of 40 participating teams.

The atmosphere was energetic, cheerful and filled with camaraderie as bowlers put forth their
best efforts to score a strike. Trophies for Most Spirited Team, Highest
Scoring Team, Lowest Pin Count and Highest Scoring Male and Female were
awarded at the end of the evening. United ISD thanks Leyndecker
Construction, Juan Cruz and Associates L.L.C., Pct. 3 Commissioner John
Galo, Patria Office Supply and all of the bowling teams.

The district has two additional fund raising events planned for this
year’s Toy Giveaway.  On October 26, 2013,  United ISD will hold a Bucket
Brigade at the corner of Del Mar and McPherson Road from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00
p.m.  A third and final fund raising effort will be underway on Friday,
November 8, 2013, when United ISD conducts their district-wide Jail and Bail
event from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

For a minimum donation of $25, district
employees will be able to have their boss or co-worker arrested and jailed
by United ISD Police. All fund raising arrests will be made only at United
ISD facilities and campuses. Additional monetary donations are welcome and
any amount is greatly appreciated. Your tax deductible donation can be
dropped off at United ISD’s main office, located at 201 Lindenwood. For more
information, please call Ms. Rosie Cruz at 473-6219.
