Catherine Plasencia Arrested for Injury to a Child and Endangerment of a Child

Courtesy Joe Baeza, Laredo, Tx)- On August 6th., the Laredo Police Department received a call about an unresponsive male on the bathroom floor of room #3 at the Evelyn Motor Inn. Police Officers arrived on the scene and were met at the door by Rivera’s wife who was identified as Catherine Plasencia. Plasencia, who held her 3 month old child in her arms, was visibly upset and stated that she found her husband lying on the bathroom floor and her infant son was having medical problems. The infant was transported to the Laredo Medical Center (LMC) where he was later flown to University Hospital in San Antonio, Texas and placed on “Life Support”. The infant tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine in his system. The child has been released from the hospital since the incident and is now in foster care under the supervision of CPS. Placensia turned herself in and was booked yesterday morning at LPD headquarters. She was charged with Child Endangerment SJF, Injury to a Child F/2. She was taken to Webb County Jail and held under a $15,000 combined bond. Autopsy report of Humberto Rivera revealed that he died of mixed drug intoxication. The manner of death was ruled an accidental overdose.
