El Paso, TX – The Lemurs jumped into a first-place tie in the American Association South Division after splitting two games tonight at Cohen Stadium.

In game one, Laredo held off the Diablos 11-9.  The game resumed in the fourth with the Lemurs leading 2-0.  It had been postponed from the night before due to rain and lightning.  El Paso scored in three straight innings to take a 5-2 lead after six.  The Lemurs then erupted for a six-run seventh, and added three more in the ninth for the victory.  Greg Wilborn picked up the win in relief.  Wilborn (6-2) worked four innings and allowed six runs (five earned) on eight base hits.  He struck out four and walked one.  Chad Povich picked up his third save of the season.  Povich went an inning and two-thirds, and gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits.  He struck out four with no walks.  At the plate, Stephen Douglas and Balbino Fuenmayor both homered.  Fuenmayor drove in four, while Douglas had three RBI.  Six Laredo batters collected at least two hits in the game.

El Paso (32-52) took game two 4-3.  The Lemurs scored twice in a pivotal sixth inning to tie the game at 3-3.  The Diablos then plated the eventual winning run in the bottom of the sixth.  Marshall Schuler posted the win in relief for El Paso.  Schuler (6-2) pitched one and two-thirds, and did not allow a run or a hit.  Jameson Maj took the loss in relief for Laredo.  Maj (3-2) worked an inning, and allowed one earned run on three hits.  At the plate for the Lemurs, John Allen went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.  Brian Peterson was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Laredo finished with a 12-10 record this season against El Paso.  The Lemurs (45-39) are now in a first-place tie with Grand Prairie after the AirHogs lost two games at Amarillo Thursday.  Laredo heads to the Texas Panhandle for a three-game weekend series against the Sox starting Friday night at 7:05.
