Gary SouthShore 5, Kansas City 3
Gary SouthShore keeps inching closer to a wild card berth as they beat Kansas City, 5-3. RailCats SS Zac Mitchell and 3B Brian Kolb each had three hits in the contest to lead the offense. Both players scored a run while Mitchell drove in a pair of runs. Gary SouthShore DH Reid Fronk hit his first home run of the season as he went 2-for-3 with two RBI. RailCats’ Stephen Hiscock picked up his fourth victory of the year as he 8 1/3 innings giving up three earned runs on nine hits with eight strikeouts. With the win and the Winnipeg loss, Gary SouthShore now has a 2 ½ game lead over the Goldeyes in the wild card chase.
St. Paul 7, Winnipeg 6
St. Paul scores two runs in the top of the ninth inning to rally from a 6-5 deficit and beat Winnipeg by the score of 7-6. With the loss, the Goldeyes are now 2 ½ games behind the Gary SouthShore RailCats for the wild card. Saints SS Joey Becker and LF Donald Blunt each had three hits in the game and scored a run. St. Paul leadoff hitter Andy Henkemeyer chipped in with three hits as well in five at-bats and plated two runs. Saints reliever Jon Plefka was the winning pitcher as he threw two scoreless innings and gave up two hits and a walk.
New Jersey 3, Laredo 2 (Game 1 – 7 Innings)
In game one of a doubleheader , New Jersey 2B Jose Cuevas singled home 3B Nick Giarraputo with the go-ahead run in the sixth inning as the Jackals downed the Laredo Lemurs, 3-2. Every New Jersey hitter collected a hit in the contest including CF Chris Curran who went 1-for-3 and scored a run. Curran in the process stole his league leading 45th base of the season. Jackals starting pitcher Wes Roemer notched his third win with the club as he went six innings and allowed two earned runs on seven hits.
New Jersey 5, Laredo 1 (Game 2 – 7 Innings)
The New Jersey Jackals finish off the doubleheader sweep as they defeat the Laredo Lemurs, 5-1 in game two of the doubleheader. New Jersey CF Chris Curran and RF Bryan Sabatella each collected two hits with Curran scoring a run. Jackals DH John Lindsey added a home run, his third of the season. Jackals starter Craig Bennigson tossed a solid game en route to his eighth win of the season. Bennigson gave up a run on three hits in six innings pitched. Laredo 3B Garrett Buechele launched a home run in the loss.
Fargo-Moorhead 9, Amarillo 3
After falling behind 3-0 after two innings, the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks scored nine runs over the next three innings and would go to win 9-3 over the Amarillo Sox. Fargo-Moorhead 3B Ronnie Bourquin had a great game offensively going 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and five RBI. Six other RedHawks had multi-hit games including SS Zach Penprase who went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI. Penprase also collected his 40th stolen base of the season. Fargo-Moorhead starter Brian Ernst improved his record to 7-2 on the year with the victory. Ernst gave up three earned runs on six hits in five innings pitched. With the losses by Amarillo and Laredo and the win by Grand Prairie, the Sox have a ½ game lead over the AirHogs and a one game advantage over the Lemurs in the South Division.
Sioux City 10, Sioux Falls 7
Trailing 2-0 after an inning of play, the Sioux City Explorers scored four runs in the second and five more in the third to take a 9-2 lead and would cruise from there to a 10-7 victory over the Sioux Falls Canaries. Eight of the nine batters in the Sioux City lineup had at least one hit in the contest tonight. Explorers C Adrian Martinez went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and five RBI. Sioux City SS Anthony Kaskadden and 2B Leugim Barroso each had two hits with Barroso scoring a run. Explorers starting pitcher Ryan Lucero picked up the win going six innings and giving up three earned runs on nine hits in six innings pitched. Sioux Falls RF Nick Van Stratten and 1B Marcos Rodriguez each had four hits in the loss.
Grand Prairie 8, El Paso 1
Grand Prairie scored four runs in the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie and would go to defeat El Paso by an 8-1 final. AirHogs DH Palmer Karr went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI while LF Austin Newell had two hits and drove in a pair of runs. Grand Prairie starting pitcher Gabriel Garcia tossed a terrific game en route to his second win of the season. Garcia allowed one earned run on six hits in seven innings pitched. For the Diablos in defeat, SS Maikol Gonzalez collected two hits.
Wichita 5, Lincoln 4
Wichita LF Jared McDonald doubled home PR Madison Beaird with the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning as the Wingnuts edged the Lincoln Saltdogs, 5-4. Wichita 1B CJ Ziegler had a 2-for-4 night with a run scored and C Cole Armstrong had two hits in four at-bats along with a pair of RBI. Wingnuts reliever Lincoln Holdzkom notched the victory as he gave up an unearned run on two hits in an inning of work. It was Holdzkom’s second win of the year.
