Laredo 4, St. Paul 3 (Game 1 – 7 Innings)
A two run fifth inning from the Laredo Lemurs would put them on top of the St. Paul Saints 4-3, a lead they would keep intact until the final out of the first game of the double header.
LF Sawyer Carroll led off the inning with a double, and 1B John Alonso drove him in with a single in the very next at bat. Alonso would score the winning run later in the inning after CF Mike Provencher walked with the bases loaded.
David Newmann threw six innings of the seven inning game, and struck out three batters in his bid for the win. He gave up just four hits and allowed three runs.
St. Paul 4, Laredo 3 (Game 2 – 7 Innings)
The St. Paul Saints managed to split the doubleheader with the Laredo Lemurs, winning the second game 4-3. The Lemurs made a run at a comeback in the bottom of the sixth down 4-2, but only managed to score one run.
Drew Gay picked up the win for the Saints after throwing five innings and allowing two runs while striking out one and walking four. Laredo was only able to get two hits off of Gay.
SS Brad Boyer had a nice game in the 3-hole for St. Paul, going 2-4 with one run scored and one RBI.
Winnipeg 12, Trois-Rivieres 2
The Goldeyes didn’t score multiple runs until the top of the sixth inning, but once they did, they didn’t want to stop. Winnipeg scored two runs in the sixth, five in the seventh, and added four more in the ninth to top Trois-Rivieres 12-2.
Four Winnipeg batters managed multi-hit games, while CF Fehlandt Lentini and RF Ray Sadler both managed three hits and three runs apiece. Sadler also added an impressive four RBI’s to his stat line for the night. 3B Josh Mazzola went 3-5 and drove in three runs of his own.
Defensively, the Goldeyes were led by starter Matthew Rusch. Rusch went 5.2 innings and allowed just one run while striking out six batters and walking two, to pick up the win.
Kansas City 11, Grand Prairie 2
The Kansas City T-Bones got on the board early and often against the AirHogs, scoring four runs in the first inning and two in the second. They would eventually win by nine runs with a final score of 11-2.
The 2, 3, and 4 hitters in the Kansas City lineup did the bulk of the damage with SS Devin Goodwin, 3B Matt Padgett, and 1B Kyle Nichols combining to go 8-13 with eight runs and nine RBI’s. What made the night even more spectacular for the three was the fact that each player had a homerun.
Lucas Irvine picked up the win for the T-Bones. He threw six innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits while striking out five and walking one.
Fargo-Moorhead 4, Sioux Falls 2
It was a pitcher’s dual for more than half of the game between the RedHawks and Canaries until the offense of both teams finally broke out in the sixth inning. Each team scored once in that frame before Fargo-Moorhead eventually went on to win 4-2 after a two-run eighth inning.
The RedHawks went into the bottom of the eighth with the game tied before 1B Keith Brachold drove in the go-ahead as well as an insurance run, with a two-RBI single. Brachold went 2-4 with two RBI’s.
Joe Harris would only throw 1/3 of an inning but managed to grab the win in the process. He walked one batter and gave up no hits and no runs in his short outing.
Lincoln 13, Gary SouthShore 2
The Lincoln Saltdogs erupted for 13 runs to take down the Gary SouthShore RailCats 13-2.
It was a team effort across the board for Lincoln as 8 different batters scored at least one run and eight different batters drove in at least one as well. 2B David Espinosa led the team with four RBI’s and three runs while going 3-4 with a walk.
3B Curt Smith and RF Jon Gaston were the only other players with multiple hits, going 2-5 and 2-4 respectively.
Starter Mike Burns would pick up the win for Lincoln after his seven innings of work. He allowed two runs (one earned) while striking out four, walking none, and giving up only four hits.
Wichita 12, Sioux City 5
The Wichita Wingnuts scored in six of nine innings to beat the Sioux City Explorers 12-5.
2B Jake Kahaulelio went 3-5 with a walk and 1B CJ Ziegler went 2-3 with two walks to pace the Wingnuts offensively. Kahaulelio drove in two and scored twice, while Ziegler drove in three, and scored three times. Ziegler also added his 18th homer of the season.
The winning pitcher for Wichita would be starter Ryan Scoles, who threw five innings and allowed three runs. It was just his second start of the season for Wichita but he is 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA so far.
Amarillo, El Paso (Postponed)
The game between the Amarillo Sox and the El Paso Diablos has been postponed. It will be made up on August 8, at 6:05 PM.
