Wichita 2, Sioux City 0
Wichita’s starter Christopher Smith was very impressive on the mound as he went eight strong, shutout innings helping the Wingnuts blank the Sioux City Explorers 2-0. Smith allowed just four hits and one walk and struck out nine Explorers. Reliever Josh Dew came in and collected the save by sitting the Explorers down in order in the ninth.
Four Wingnuts had hits in the game but three of those batters registered multi-hit games including 1B C.J. Ziegler who was 2-for-4 with an RBI. DH John Rodriguez and 3B Abel Nieves also had two-hit games.
Gary SouthShore 7, Lincoln 1
The Gary SouthShore RailCats nursed a 1-0 to the eighth inning when the game really opened up and the RailCats pounced on the Lincoln Saltdogs to win 7-1. The RailCats put up two runs in the eighth inning on a single from RF Mike Massaro, who was 2-for-5 in the game.
And in the ninth inning, the RailCats put the game away with four more runs, two on a single by LF Adam Klein. Klein also had two hits in the game. 1B Christian Vitters scored twice and added two base hits of his own. Starter Will Krout picked up the win for throwing 7.2 innings of one-run ball. He struck out six and allowed just four hits.
Kansas City 9, Grand Prairie 3
The Kansas City T-Bones got a huge lift from 1B Kyle Nichols in the form of a fifth-inning grand slam on their way to beating the Grand Prairie AirHogs 9-3. It was his only hit of the game but it capped off a five-run rally that put the T-Bones safely out in front.
SS Devin Goodwin also had a multi-RBI game as he was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Three other T-Bones posted two-hit games including C/LF Steve Yoo who added an RBI. Grand Prairie’s 1B Andres Rodriguez finished the night with a game-high three hits.
Trois-Rivieres 9, Winnipeg 3
The Trois-Rivieres Aigles put up all nine of their runs in the fifth inning as a part of one huge rally that proved to be too much for the Winnipeg Goldeyes and Trois-Rivieres went on to win 9-3. The Aigles sent 14 batters to the plate, recorded seven hits, capitalized on two errors, and eight Aigles were credited with RBI as they pushed nine runs across the plate.
That one inning provided more than enough cushion for the Aigles to claim victory. RF Jon Smith and 1B Brett Flowers had two-hit games. For the Goldeyes, RF Ray Sadler, DH Casey Hearther and 2B Kevin Moesquit each had two-hit games as well.
Fargo-Moorhead 11, Sioux Falls 3 (Delayed In Progress — Power Outage)
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks were leading the Sioux Falls Canaries in the 8th inning 11-3 when an apparent power outage halted play. An electrician was working to fix the power in the hopes of resuming play tonight.
El Paso 0, Amarillo 0 (Postponed – Rain)
The game between the El Paso and Amarillo was suspended after the first half inning of play and will be resumed tomorrow at 5:05 p.m. They will play the full nine innings and Tuesday’s regularly scheduled game will start 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game and it will be a seven inning affair.
St. Paul, Laredo (Postponed – Rain)
The game between the St. Paul Saints and the Laredo Lemurs was postponed due to rain. It will be made up tomorrow as a part of a double header starting at 6 p.m.
