Wingnuts Score Early to Take Game Two

Wichita, KS – The Wichita Wingnuts (25-14) put up five runs in the first as they go on to beat the Laredo Lemurs (22-15) 10-2 in the second game of a three game series at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in Wichita, Kansas.
Wingnuts leadoff hitter Ryan Khoury opened the bottom of the first with a base hit against Lemurs starter Fernando Hernandez. Nieves followed up with a base hit of his own to put runners at first and second with John Rodriguez coming to the plate. Rodriguez quickly deposited a pitch over the left center field wall, that hit the video board, to give the Wingnuts a 3-0 lead in the first.
The inning would continue with no one out and C.J. Ziegler earning a walk. With one out Cole Armstrong and Colt Loehrs would come up with back-to-back singles to load the bases. Then David Amberson came to the plate with the bases loaded earning a walk to bring in the fourth run of the inning. That would be followed by Jared McDonald reaching on a fielders choice to score Armstrong from third and put the Wingnuts up 5-0 after one.
The Wingnuts would pick up two more homeruns, with one coming in the third off the bat of Brent Clevlen and one in the fourth with David Amberson taking one deep. Amberson’s homer was part of a four run fourth for the Wingnuts, that put them up 10-2 over the Lemurs.
The Wingnuts have hit seven homerun in the first two games of the three game series. The Lemurs have given up 26 runs over the first four innings in two games against Wichita.
Lemurs starter Fernando Hernandez (0-1) got roughed up in his second start of the year as he went five, giving up 10 runs, on 13 hits, with four walks, and two strikeouts.
Justin Klipp (2-0) picked up the win going seven, giving up two runs, on six hits, with a walk, and six strikeouts.
The Lemurs will face the Wingnuts for the finale of the series tomorrow as they try to avoid the sweep. The Lemurs will be home on Friday to take on the Amarillo Sox for a three game series at Uni-Trade Stadium.
