(Laredo, Tx)-While registration is still underway, Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) is already seeing two positive indicators about the coming Fall Semester: on-campus student housing is full and reservations for the University’s freshman orientation are climbing.
Trevor Liddle, director of Housing and Residence Life, said both the University Village on the campus’ west side and the Residential Learning Community on its east are full.
“Combined, these provide housing for approximately 650 students, “ Liddle said. He noted Housing and Residence Life is still accepting waitlist applications and works with incoming students to help them select suitable off-campus options if needed.
“Dusty Camp,” the University’s freshman orientation program, has seen a boost in reservations, said Jerry Alva, director of Student Affairs.
“We offer five Dusty Camps and reservations for them are up about 5% from last year. We’ve also expanded our orientation offerings for transfer students and our Student-Parent Orientations continue to be very popular. Combined, we expect over 1300 students at our various orientation programs,” Alva explained.
Dusty Camp is conducted over two days and provides students with insight into financial aid, housing, academic expectations, free available student services and TAMIU first year student involvement opportunities.
In addition to the June 27-28 Dusty Camp, Camps are set for July 18-19, Aug. 1-2 and Aug. 12-13. Fall semester classes begin Wednesday, Aug. 28.
