(Laredo, Tx)-Students at Bruni Elementary School do their very best to help raise awareness and funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation; this year will be no exception as they get ready for this year’s Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraiser event.
On THURSDAY, May 16 at 8:30 a.m., the school, located at San Eduardo Avenue will host a school walk to help raise funds to help JDRF. Joining the students at this important event will be Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar.
Diabetes afflicts 1.7 million children and adults in Texas alone, many who live in Laredo. Funds raised from sponsorships and attendees of the annual Walk to Cure Diabetes will go towards research to find a CURE for this debilitating disease.
Today, people with type 1 diabetes rely on insulin to manage the disease. But insulin is not a cure, nor does it prevent the possibility of the disease’s devastating effects, which can include kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke, amputation and pregnancy complications. Type I is especially prevalent among Hispanics.
