Criminals Arrested Inside Academy Sports Store / two arrests made

            On Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 12:12 am Officers were dispatched to Academy Sports Store (5700 San Bernardo) on a burglary in progress call. Police arrived and were met by night employees, working inside the closed store restocking. They told officers that a loud banging noise could be heard coming from the north side of the building. When officers checked the outside perimeter behind the store they noticed a male subject running from the scene. The suspect was quickly apprehended by police. A more thorough check of the area was conducted and police noticed that a sledge hammer was used to make a large hole into the Academy Store backroom warehouse. Police checked the warehouse and located another subject hiding inside and was apprehended.  Officers checked the entire store but no one else was located. The intrusion was made behind a large dumpster to avoid from being seen from the street. The suspects arrested were identified as Juan Antonio Martinez, age 19 and Guillermo Pina Martinez, age 19. Case# 09-2612.
