Laredo to Host Ferreyro's World Heavyweight Title Bid on April 18!

Not since the legendary and now Boxing Hall of Fame inductee Orlando Canizales defended his IBF world title in Laredo, Texas , has the “Gateway City” hosted such an event.  On April 18, 2009, that will all change when popular local heavyweight Hector “HURRICANE” Ferreyro attempts his first bid at a world title by challenging for the vacant IBC World Heavyweight Championship .  The World Championship fight was made possible and brought to Laredo by the highly respected Boxing impresario  “Mike Michael” and will be promoted by Recon Garza Promotions in association with Los Dos Laredos Boxing Productions and Cestus Management Makers of Champions.  The under card fights will feature the exciting and hard punching Cestus Management fighters who will provide action packed quality fights.  The boxing event will take place at Veteran’s Field and is expected to be a sellout.    

Ferreyro’s title bid presents the biggest challenge of his career as the local fighter is slated to face behemoth power punching heavyweight Cissi “COOL C” Salif whom has twenty-one knockouts in twenty-four wins and stands over six foot four inches tall normally tipping the scales at over two hundred sixty pounds. 

Hector Ferreyro, who is currently in full training for the fight, said, “He’s (Cissi Salif) a big guy that has some serious power.  Salif has been in the ring with guys like (David) Tua and Eddie Chambers which are top heavyweight.”  Ferreyro continued, “Mike Michael is showing a lot of confidence in me and, if it wasn’t for Mr. Michael and Cestus, I would not be fighting for a world title.  I’m going to make Laredo proud on April 18 and will put on a boxing clinic and I know that at the end of the fight I will be crowned the new IBC World Heavyweight Champion.”

Mike Michael, Cestus Management’s President, said, “This is going to be a real challenge for Hector (Ferreyro) as Cissi Salif is a bona fide heavyweight contender with serious power and is a real big man.  The people of Laredo are extremely intelligent boxing fans and we knew that if we were going to allow Hector Ferreyro to challenge for the IBC world title the opponent would have to be someone that is respected and Salif, who has twenty-one knockouts in twenty-four wins, is as respected as any heavyweight in the world today.”  Michael added, “ On Saturday April 18, 2009, I believe that the Laredo Veteran’s Field will be jam-packed with the support of the great Laredo sports fans that will enjoy a magnificent night of boxing." Michael further stated that “the under card will be loaded with Cestus fighters in hardcore bouts that will showcase their skills and show everyone why they are the best young talent in Texas.  So everybody should make sure that they get their fight tickets early, because the Veterans Field Stadium will be sold out!”
