Crime Stoppers tip leads Police to an arrest in Monday’s Auto-Pedestrian fatality accident.
ON MONDAY DECEMBER 1, 2008 AT APPROXIMATELY 7:52PM POLICE RECEIVED A CALL AN AUTO-PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT BY THE 800 BLOCK OF VICTORIA ST., WHERE THE SUSPECT VEHICLE LEFT THE SCENE. THE PEDESTRIAN, LATER IDENTIFIED AS MANUELA H RANGEL 7/8/35, HAD EXPIRED AT THE SCENE. THE LAREDO P.D. CRASH TEAM WAS ACTIVATED AND BEGAN TO INVESTIGATE THE ACCIDENT SCENE. EVIDENCE INDICATED THAT THE VICTIM WAS DRAGGED FROM THE 800 VICTORIA TO THE 600 BLOCK OF VICTORIA. A VEHICLE DESCRIPTION, PROVIDED BY EYE WITNESSES AT SCENE, (ORANGE IN COLOR SPORT TRAC EXPLORER) WAS QUICKLY GIVEN TO OFFICERS ON PATROL AND ALSO TO THE MEDIA.
ON WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 3, 2008 AT APPROXIMATELY 9:10PM AN ANONYMOUS CALL CAME IN THROUGH CRIME STOPPERS STATING THAT A VEHICLE MATCHING THE DESCRIPTION ON THE AUTO-PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT WAS PARKED BY A RESIDENCE AT THE 100 BLOCK OF GALVESTON. POLICE MET WITH THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE AT THE RESIDENCE ON GALVESTON. AT THAT POINT OFFICERS NOTICED THAT ON THE LEFT SIDE PANELS HAD WHAT IS BELIEVED TO LOOK LIKE TRACE EVDENCE FROM THE ACCIDENT. DETECTIVES WERE CALLED AT THAT POINT TO ASSIST TO THE LOCATION. THE OWNER ALONG WITH HER BOYFRIEND ROBERT GONZALEZ 8/17/56, AGREED TO GO TO THE POLICE STATION FOR AN INTERVIEW. THE OWNER OF THE CAR PROVIDED A WRITTEN CONSENT TO PROCESS THE VEHICLE FOR EVIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN INPOUNDED AND TAKEN TO THE POLICE STATION. AT THE STATION MR. ROBERTO GONZALEZ WAS GIVEN HIS MIRANDA RIGHTS IN ENGLISH AND AFTER ACKNOWLEDGING HIS RIGHTS, HE DECIDED TO WAIVE THEM AND DECIDED TO ANSWER QUESTIONS REGARDING THE AUTO-PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT OF DECEMBER 1ST 2008 BY 800 VICTORIA ST. DURING THE INTERVIEW WHICH WAS AUDIO & VIDEO RECORDED,
