City of Laredo to Build Additional Bus Bays
ALC Construction, the city’s contractor, will begin work on constructing two El Metro Bus Bays on Mines Road, one along the northwest corner of Quail Creek Road and the other along the southeast corner of Bristol Road.
This project consists of constructing two reinforced concrete bus bays. The work in this project involves the saw-cut and removal of existing curb and sidewalk; constructing an 8” thick slab of reinforced concrete; the relocating the existing post and cable fence; relocating street signs, security light, and waiting benches; constructing concrete sidewalks and ramps; and implementing a traffic control plan that will keep the outer southeast traffic lane closed.
The project will start tomorrow, Tuesday, April 7, 2009, so the motoring public will see some equipment mobilization and the traffic control plan implementation.
This project will be constructed in two phases.
Phase I: Constructing the bus bay located northwest of Quail Creek Road, which should take approximately five weeks.
Phase II: Constructing the bus bay located southeast of Bristol Road, which should take approximately five weeks.
Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully when passing through the construction site, to pay close attention to the warning signs, construction workers, and heavy trucks working in the area. If it is possible, the activities pertaining to this area should be re-scheduled out of the peak traffic hours. The intention of the project is to make the road safer and to improve driving conditions.
