Injury to a Child F/1

On Saturday, 11 October 2008 at approximately 8:00 p.m. an LPD Investigator was dispatched to 1800 Kearney to begin investigating an Injury to a Child case. The case was in referred to LPD by a Child Protective Services caseworker from San Antonio. On Friday October 10, 2008 a 3 month old infant was flown from Laredo, Tx (Doctor’s Hospital) to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in San Antonio, Texas with severe head injuries. The parents of the 3 month infant told authorities that the child was unresponsive when they went to feed it so they in turn called 911 for medical attention. The doctors in San Antonio realized that the infant had consistent injuries associated with “Shaken Baby Syndrome”. The physician found that the infant had internal injuries consistent with severe physical abuse. The medical staff then called in CPS to conduct an investigation.

The LPD Special Investigations Unit conducted a full investigation and determined that Daniel Romero, 04/02/77, was responsible for the physical abuse. An arrest warrant was executed on November 03, 2008 for two counts of Injury to a Child F/1 and F/3. The warrants were issued by J.P. OSCAR LIENDO and were issued a combined bond of $150,000. The baby remains in serious condition in a San Antonio Hospital.
