The City of Laredo Health Department Announces its Women’s Health and Family Planning Services

Laredo, TX—Women’s Preventive and Early Detection Care and Family Planning is critical to support wellness, prenatal and post natal care as well good birth and well child outcomes. With over 600 adolescent (under 18) women pregnant each year, rise in sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), a disparity in cervical cancer and increase in prematurity we need to assure that women have every opportunity to access care and family planning. There new services have been initiated to address women’s and well child newborn care.

The St. Mary’s University Alumni Association Laredo Chapter is looking for volunteers to help man their soda booth at this year’s Fiesta Oysterbake on Saturday, April 21, 2012.  Alumni, family and friends of St. Mary’s are encouraged to participate in this fundraiser which helps provide thousands of dollars in scholarships for local Laredo students heading off to St. Mary’s.  Anyone who would like more information on volunteering can contact Xochitl Mora Garcia at 337-3639 or via e-mail at xoch.mora@gmail.com.

Storytelling & Neighborhood Potluck (Cuentos y Leyendas Entre Vecinos)

 Laredo, TX –   The neighbors of the St. Peter’s Historic Neighborhood Association invite the public to a Sunday, March 25, 2012 gathering of friends and neighbors to share food and good stories.  The group of neighbors asks those who would like to join in to bring a disposable plate of food to contribute and consider telling a story or two, in English or Spanish.

This Saturday  March 17th Councilmember Alex Perez will be conducting a cleanup of the Chacon Creek Park.    The clean up will start at 8:15a.m. and end at noon.  “As citizens of this great community, we have a responsibility to help keep our own neighborhoods clean and free of trash, tires, plastic bags and debris,” said Cm. **SPRING BREAK IMPAIRED DRIVER MOBILIZATION STEP GRANT**

 (Laredo, Tx)-The Laredo Police Department will be working an Impaired Driver Mobilization STEP grant that has been provided by the Texas Department of Transportation in which police officers will be working overtime in enforcing DWI laws by locating and identifying intoxicated drivers during the spring break holidays.
 Law enforcement throughout Texas and the Laredo Police Department, are participating in the push to deter drunk driving. During Spring Break 2012, state and local law enforcement agencies will be working overtime to enforce the state’s drunk driving laws.

The City of Laredo Health Department Observes National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

Laredo, Texas — The City of Laredo Health Department (CLHD), through their HIV/AIDS Program, is joining the Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Office on Women’s Health (OWH) in taking action against HIV/AIDS.
