El Pescador is asking the public to stop by any of their three locations 3919 San Dario, 207 Shiloh, or 3620 S. Zapata Hwy. to drop off non-perishable items or hygeine products that will be sent to troops in Afghanistan.  Receiving the supplies in Afghanistan will be Major Luis Tinajero who has been deployed overseas for over seven months.  Luis Tinajero is also a Lieutenant  with the Laredo Police Department.  

Children who visit the restaurant with their parents will also have an apportunity to participate by coloring a special kids menu designed with military images.  Parents can then make a one dollar donation so that the colored sheet can be displayed in front of the restaurant.  The colored images will be included in the packages sent to the soldiers.  The drive started yesterday and will be in place at all three of their locations for the next 30 days ending on November 23, 2012.

The kids enjoyed a fun filled afternoon that included face painting by Clown Raspitas who donated her time and effort to the event to bring smiles to the childrens faces.  

Rodolfo “Rudy” Rodriguez had Deputy Constables on hand for the duration of the event which went a little beyond the three hour mark they participated by taking vital stats on information packets for the children that included documentation such as finger prints that were given to the kids to take home to their parents for their records.  

Fernando “El Tigre” Rodriguez of La Mega 95.7 and Oscar Pantoja of Caesars Reception Hall served as the masters of ceremony lifting the kids spirits to unprecedented levels of enthuthiasm.  El Tigre was accompanied by fellow Mega 95.7 staffers Sara Martinez and Rogelio Guzman.  The event also drew a special guest appearance by Huggie from the Webb County and Zapata County District Attorney’s Office who shook hands with the children and danced to the music that blared thru the restaurants sound system. 

Members of the Laredo Heat Soccer team also took time before todays game to participate interact with the children taking pictures and signing autographs.  Throughout the afternooon a total of 13 board games and 8 bicycles were raffled amongst the children who attended.  The breakdown of the donations was as follows 2 bicycles by Rick Garcia of Modern Machine Shop, 2 bicycles by Justice of the Peace Ricardo Rangel and Ricardo Rangel Jr, (1) bicycle by Rick Flores, (1)  bicycle by The Law Firm of Octavio Salinas II, 2 bicycles by Mr. Juan Molina who owns and operates The Country Store on 359 and Fletcha Materials also on 359.  

The Crime Stoppers organization also donated goody bags that included pens and sticker badges to the children.  All in all the event was a huge success and the smiles on the childrens faces showed what a community can do when it works together for the will and good of the people.
