(Laredo, Tx)- The U.S. Department of Justice has appointed Estela Quintanilla of Laredo as an alternate member to the Federal Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice (FACJJ) for the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP).
With this appointment, Quintanilla will assume an essential role in conveying the group’s perspectives on juvenile justice issues during the absence of the primary member. Quintanilla will serve as a representative for the following states and territories: California, Florida, Texas and Puerto Rico. (Laredo, Tx)- All Laredo Independent School District campuses will be closed Friday, November 11, due to staff development training. LISD administration, faculty, and staff will report to work on Friday morning for their required staff development training.
There will be no classes for students on Friday due to staff development training. However, on Friday morning hundreds of LISD students will participate in the annual Veterans Day Parade in downtown Laredo. Students will resume their regular schedules on Monday, November 14.

(Laredo, Tx)- Obtaining a college education is generally accepted as both a goal and a value among students today. By eighth grade, over 80% of students indicate that they will earn at least a college degree when asked and nearly half also expect to earn a graduate or professional degree.
To encourage higher education, Laredo ISD is organizing college tours for over 3,000 seventh and eighth grade students from Christen, Lamar, Cigarroa, and Memorial Middle Schools.
Students will be visiting both Laredo Community College and Texas A&M International University this month. …

(Laredo, Tx)- The Laredo Independent School District continues to offer free flu clinics for LISD students. Now through November 15th, free flu vaccine clinics are scheduled for eligible students at LISD campuses.
Elementary school students have their flu vaccines clinics scheduled at their schools through mid November. Parents/guardians must accompany their children.
Middle and high school students must submit signed parent pre-consent forms with their school nurses on designated consent dates. Parents do not need to be present.

(Laredo, Tx)- The Laredo Independent School District’s Athletic Department announces the sale of tickets for the annual Martin-Nixon football game, which will be played on Saturday, November 5, at 7:00 p.m. at the new Shirley Field Sports Complex. Tickets go on sale Monday, October 31.

The Laredo Independent School District’s Transportation Department will be celebrating this year’s National School Bus Safety Week scheduled October 17- 21 with several events.
The celebration will kick-off on Tuesday, October 18, with a parade starting at 9:30 a.m. at Veterans Field and ending at the LISD Student Activity Center (SAC). Immediately following the parade, a proclamation ceremony honoring all bus drivers will be held at the SAC.
