LISD campuses close for staff development

 All Laredo Independent School District campuses will be closed Monday, September 6, due to staff development training. LISD administration, faculty, and staff will report to work on Monday morning for their required staff development training.
However, there will be no classes for students on Monday due to staff development training. Students will resume their regular schedules on Tuesday, September 7.

LISD’s Hugo De La Vina selected as Region One Assistant Principal of the Year

    Hugo De La Vina, Assistant Principal of F.S. Lara Academy with the Laredo Independent School District, has been selected to represent the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals as the Region One Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year. The Sports Center Stocked for Back to School Sports and Activities

For all your Back-to-School needs visit The Sports Center located at 4520 San Bernardo .  You will find a complete stock of school uniforms for both boys and girls of all ages.  Uniforms for girls include, pants, skirts, and dresses as well as white or blue shirts as required by all school districts.  For the boys you will find pants and shirts in all sizes.  The Sports Center also has sporting and protective equipment for youth and adults.  Letterman varsity jackets are also in stock now with school logos available for each of …

 The Laredo Independent School District Tax Office is currently accepting applications for a place on the 2010 LISD Board of Trustees general election ballot. The deadline to file an application for a place on the ballot is Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at 5:00 p.m.
 Residents of the district may file in person at the LISD Tax Office during regular business hours from 8:00 a.m., to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Residents can also mail their applications to the Tax Office at 904 Juarez Laredo, TX. 78040.

LISD to provide free meals to all children

 The Laredo Independent School District’s Child Nutrition Program (CNP) will be providing nutritionally balanced free school meals to children each school day for the 2010-2011 school year. “All LISD school cafeterias will be offering healthy breakfast and lunch meals at no charge to LISD students,” announced Margaret Lopez, LISD Child Nutrition Director. “As always, all students can enjoy their favorite breakfast, lunch, and sometimes after school snacks free of charge.”

LISD student registration begins

 Laredo Independent School District will begin registering students for the 2010-2011 school year starting Wednesday, August 11, – Friday, August 20. Students planning to enroll in classes may register at their respective campuses.   Registration for high school students will be held August 11-17. Middle School registration is also set for August 11-17. New student registration will take place August 18 and August 20. Elementary schools have set their registration for August 11 through August 20.
 Students new to the district must provide proper documentation for registration purposes.

Gov. Perry Appoints LISD Educator to State Panel

 Governor Rick Perry earlier this month appointed Diana Juarez, LISD Director of Staff Development, to the Communities in School State Advisory Committee (CISSAC). The nine-member State Advisory Committee, appointed by the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Speaker of the House, works closely with the Texas Education Agency and the CIS State Office to help provide guidance and support the implementation and growth of the program statewide.

LISD Elementary Educators are Harvard Bound

 Two LISD educators are the only Laredoans selected for the Raise Your Hand Texas Leadership Program at Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts.  Myrtala Ramirez, who was just named LISD Director of Elementary Education, and Cynthia Conchas, principal of Macdonell Elementary School, will be attending the week-long program scheduled for July 15-22.
