<p><strong>Laredo, TX-</strong> The City of Laredo Health Department’s Healthy Living/Viviendo Mejor program will be hosting free Diabetes Support Group sessions starting this week.  The Diabetes Support Group gives adults with diabetes and their families and friends continuing peer support.  Five weekly meetings have been scheduled and will feature a variety of topics related to diabetes presented by experts in the healthcare field.  The Diabetes Support Group will meet once a week for the next five weeks at the City of Laredo Health Department’s Healthy Learning Center (2600 Cedar Ave). We urge the public to participate as the entire family needs to address the crisis of diabetes. </p>

<p><strong>Laredo, TX—</strong>The City of Laredo Health Department (CLHD) is inviting the public to join an innovative and exciting Diabetes Education Prevention initiative “<strong>Healthy Living/Viviendo Mejor</strong>”.  This is the third cycle to help increase prevention, awareness, reduce risks of diabetes and its complications and improve diabetes self management to prevent this illness, which affects many in our community.   <strong></strong></p>
<p> HLVM just graduated its second class and is <span style="text-decoration: underline;">currently seeking fifty (50) people to enroll in the third cycle</span>. What is unique about these sessions is that it focuses on the family and community at large who are at risk of diabetes.  HLVM helps persons take control of their chronic disease with self management and risk reduction classes, cooking lessons, fitness activities and peer support activities. Participants of the first session commented that what they learned during this program was life changing!</p>
<p> These free interactive classes are being offered to persons with diabetes but as important, to their family members and/or persons at risk of developing diabetes. We want to intervene before someone develops diabetes and/or its complications.  All persons enrolled in the group will also get free diabetes screening.</p>

<p> The event will give participants a chance to learn about and practice basic bicycling skills and safety tips they need in order to be better cyclists. The Bicycle Rodeo will include a safety inspection and a series of skills stations directly related to everyday bicycling situation. Participants will practice starting and stopping, the safe way to exit a driveway, how to look for traffic, negotiate an intersection, and avoid common road hazards.</p>
<p> “The Bike Rodeo will offer riders bike safety inspections and proper helmet fitting done by our police department,” said LISD Police Chief Lonnie Cook. “The children can practice their bike handling skills on our bike course lay out. By learning bike handling and traffic skills, one can enjoy bicycling more and reduce the chance of injury.”</p>
<p> Bicyclists aged eight to twelve are invited to attend. Children will need to bring a bicycle, a helmet, and a signed permission slip. Parents are invited to participate, too. There is no charge for participating. Snack and refreshments will be provided.</p>

<p>The Bucks will host the 2010 CHL All Star Game Presented By Laredo Energy on Wednesday January 13th at the <span id="lw_1262786766_6" style="CURSOR: hand; BORDER-BOTTOM: #0066cc 1px dashed">Laredo Entertainment Center</span>.</p>
<p>The Bucks will team up with Corpus Christi and <span id="lw_1262786766_7">Rio Grande Valley</span> to form the South Texas All-Star team, and will take on the rest of the CHL All-Stars.</p>
<p>Bucks <span id="lw_1262786766_8">season ticket holders</span> will receive a FREE ticket to the All-Star Game, while tickets for Corpus Christi and <span id="lw_1262786766_9">Rio Grande Valley season</span> ticket holders will receive a FREE Pirata.</p>

<p>Comedian Jerry Rocha will be the headline entertainer at the 2010 CHL All Star Game Banquet Presented by Laredo Energy on January 12th at the Laredo Entertainment Center. Banquet tickets are $75 each, call 718-BUCK (2825) to order now.</p>
<p>The banquet will start with a cocktail hour from 6-7pm with <span id="lw_1262786766_10">casino games</span>, a silent auction, live music, a performance from world record holding juggler Albert Lucas and a chance to meet the 2010 CHL All-Star teams. You will have a once in a lifetime opportunity to see Lord Stanley’s Cup, where you can get up close and personal with the Holy Grail of Hockey.</p>
