TxDOT Updates State’s 100 Most Congested Roadways List

New methodology leads to increased accuracy of congestion data
AUSTIN – Using more accurate technology, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) unveiled an updated list of Texas‘ 100 most congested roadway segments Wednesday.
In developing the update, the state used actual traffic speed data to calculate delay, rather than estimations based on traffic volume used in the previous list. Parameters for roadway segment length were also adjusted to better capture congested points in the transportation system. The results of this heightened accuracy have state engineers a little excited and encouraged.

Labor Day Holiday Closure for Webb County Offices

 In observance of the Labor Day holiday, all Webb County administrative offices will be closed Monday, September 6, 2010. 
The holiday closure includes the Webb County Tax Assessor Collector’s Office.  The Webb County Sheriff’s Department will continue all services on its regular schedule.
Webb County Offices will re-open at 8 a.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2010.
Webb County Commissioners will meet Monday, September 13 at 9:00 a.m. for their regularly scheduled meeting at the Webb County Courthouse located at 1000 Houston Street.

Sheriff’s Deputies Arrest Two on Aggravated Assault Charges

Laredo, Texas (Webb County) – On Wednesday, September 1st, 2010, at approximately 9:15 a.m., Webb County Sheriff’s Deputies executed two felony warrants for the charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Arrested without incident was Jose Andres Gongora Jr., 27 years of age, and Juan Gabriel Olvera, 32 years of age.   The investigation was initiated on August 23rd, 2010 by the Webb County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Division, when Deputies responded to a call at a convenience store on Espejo Molina road where two individuals stated they …

Broncos Fall in Game One to Road Runners; Face Elimination

(August 31st, LAREDO, TX) -The Broncos (47-45) allowed eight runs in the first three innings and Edinburg (50-39) never looked back, taking game one of the opening round the of 2010 ULB playoffs by a final of 14-5.  The Broncos will face elimination tomorrow night in Edinburg, needing a win to force a deciding game three in the series.

TxDOT Urges Texans to Avoid a DWI This Labor Day

 AUSTIN, TX — From today through Sept. 6, the Texas Department of Transportation, police departments, and sheriff’s offices across the Lone Star state are working together to reduce impaired driving during the annual Drink, Drive, Go to Jail campaign.  Law enforcement statewide will be working overtime to find and arrest impaired drivers through the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Emergency Reconstruction Closes Street

 Starting today, Tuesday, August 31, 2010, City of Laredo Public Works crews will close the 2800 block of Seymore between Kearney and Lion until Friday, September 3, 2010, due to an emergency repair and reconstruction of the valley gutter in the area.  Additionally, El Metro will not have access to the stop at Seymore and Lion.  
Traveling inbound, El Metro will use a temporary stop on Loring Street a block further from Seymour.
