Bomb Squad Certification

The Laredo City Council along with local F.B.I. Agent in Charge Michael Wise, recognized the Laredo Police Department’s Bomb Squad.  The squad was recently awarded with Federal certification as a Bomb Squad (renewed certification).  They are officially listed as a federal resource for response in any national emergency by the U.S. Government.   The bomb squad and LPD Administration were recognized by the local F.B.I. Bridge I Canopy Ribbon Cutting

The City of Laredo celebrated the completion of the Gateway to the Americas Bridge Pedestrian Walkway Canopy (USA) project with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony.  The canopies are constructed over the northbound and southbound pedestrian walkways extending from the midpoint of the bridge to the northern boundary of the City-owned bridge.  The galvanized aluminum canopies are designed to shield pedestrians from the various weather elements.  Approximately 1,000 linear feet of lighting and a misting system are included.  The total cost of the project is $906,000.

Community Development Sweeps Through Neighborhood

“Operation Clean-Up” hits District IV

Laredo, TX—Inspectors from various City departments will team up on Friday, March 5, 2010 to make a sweep of an area in City Council District IV educating about and enforcing City of Laredo codes.
The campaign will encompass the following central Laredo neighborhood: Louisiana to Bartlett Avenue between Locust and Lyon Street, including Plum and Frost Street.  Inspectors from Community Development (Code Enforcement division), Police (Ordinance division), Health (Animal Control division) and Building Development Services (Zoning Inspection division) will be walking door-to-door on Friday.  They will be …

Sheriff’s Deputies Seize 425 Pounds of Marijuana Stacked Under Animal Feed Bags

 
 Laredo, Texas (Webb County) – On Wednesday, February 24th, 2010, at approximately 10 p.m.,  Webb County Sheriff’s Deputies
initiated a traffic stop Northbound on Highway 83 South.  Sheriff’s Deputies discovered 12 large bundles of  green leafy substance in the bed of the pickup truck, believed to be marijuana. The bundles were stacked under several animal feed bags, after further investigation, Deputies also discovered $2,042.94 in cash. The marijuana had an approximate weight of 424.8 pounds with an estimated street value of $215,000.  Arrested was Jesus Mata, 57, of Laredo, Texas. Mata …

Laredo Police Need Help Locating Two Convicted Sex Offenders Wanted for Failure to Comply with Sex Offender Requirements

 Special Investigations Unit is asking for the community’s help in locating two sex offenders that failed to comply with the Sex Offender Requirements.  Robert Lee Tunal, 24, and Jose Lopez Jr, 68, have outstanding warrants of arrest for failure to comply with sex offender requirements Felony 3.  If anyone knows the whereabouts of these individuals you are asked to contact the Laredo Police Department at 795-2800.  All calls are anonymous.
