Captain Jose Francisco Garza Recognized for 25 Years of Service to the Webb County Sheriff’s Office

Laredo, Texas – On February 24th, 2010, Sheriff Martin Cuellar recognized Captain Jose Francisco Garza for 25 years of service to the Webb County Sheriff’s Office. From Captain Garza’s assignments as Correctional Officer, Deputy, Field Training Officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant, to his assignment as Captain in the Patrol Division he has trained more than 14 officers who have eventually moved on to higher ranks within Law Enforcement.

Candle Light Vigil this Friday at St. Peters Plaza

 Sheriff Martin Cuellar invites you to a Candle Light Vigil in honor of all Teen Age Victims who have passed away due to a motor vehicle accident.  The vigil will take place on Friday evening March 5 from 6p.m. to 8p.m. at St. Peter’s Plaza.

Sheriff’s Deputies Seize 425 Pounds of Marijuana Stacked Under Animal Feed Bags

 
 Laredo, Texas (Webb County) – On Wednesday, February 24th, 2010, at approximately 10 p.m.,  Webb County Sheriff’s Deputies
initiated a traffic stop Northbound on Highway 83 South.  Sheriff’s Deputies discovered 12 large bundles of  green leafy substance in the bed of the pickup truck, believed to be marijuana. The bundles were stacked under several animal feed bags, after further investigation, Deputies also discovered $2,042.94 in cash. Sheriff’s Office Investigation Leads Deputies to Drugs and Guns

 Laredo, Texas (Webb County) – On February 26, 2010, a narcotics investigation by the Webb County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with The Laredo Police Department and The Federal Bureau of Investigation led Sheriff’s Deputies to a residence located at the 2500 block of Zaragoza where 30.6 grams of cocaine with an estimated street value of $2,000.00 along with 1.9 grams of heroin with an estimated street value of $400.00 along with Drug Paraphernalia were seized.  This seizure indicates that street level amounts of narcotics were being sold …

Sheriff’s Deputies Take Marijuana Off The Highway

 Laredo, Texas (Webb County) – On Tuesday, February 16, 2010, at approximately 6:27 p.m., Webb County Sheriff’s Deputies initiated a traffic stop a mile north of the Zapata/Webb County Line on Highway 83 South.  The  driver of a white Chrysler LHS, bearing paper plates refused to stop, resulting in a chase.  The Chrysler malfunctioned, the driver then fled on foot but within minutes was apprehended by Sheriff Deputy while attempting to jump over a deer proof fence.

Crime Stoppers Tip Line Continues to Make A Difference in Our Community

Laredo, Texas (Webb County) – On Tuesday, February 16, 2010, an anonymous call to the Crime Stoppers Division, led Deputies and ICE Agents to the 1900 block of Camp Street. Further investigation led to the seizure of 1.2 grams of cocaine with an estimated street value of $76.00. Failure to Appear Leads to Warrant

 Prosecutors with the Special Victims Unit of the Office of the District Attorney are appealing to the public to assist in locating Luis Alberto Lara (8/5/1981).  Lara was scheduled to appear in the 406th District Court early this morning for sentencing by the Honorable Judge Oscar Hale, Jr.  The sentence stems from a charge of Sexual Assault of a Child, a second degree felony.

Sheriff’s Deputies Search for Fugitive but Find Marijuana Instead

Laredo, Texas ( Webb County) – The Webb County Sheriff’s Office along with the U.S. Marshals coordinated the possible apprehension of a fugitive.
 On Friday, February 19, 2010, Webb County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the U.S Marshals developed information on a possible location a fugitive was staying at in the 3600 block of San Bernardo St. in Laredo, Texas. Sheriff’s Deputies Seize over $26,000 in Cash on Interstate I 35

 Laredo, Texas (Webb county) – On February 15, 2010, at approximately 3:44 a.m., Webb County Sheriff’s Deputies seized over $26,000 in US currency.
 While patrolling on Interstate 35 North near mile marker 24, Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a Kia 4 door vehicle for multiple traffic violations.   Upon further investigation and receiving consent to search the vehicle, Deputies were able to locate a hidden compartment where they found a large amount of US currency totaling  over $26,000. Founding Fathers 5k Fun Run

The Founding Fathers 5k Fun Run took place this past Saturday February 13th at the Laredo Medical Center located on Saunders runners from Laredo and the surrounding area participated in the event which is part of the WBCA Celebration.  Regardless of the cold weather a large number of runners turned out for the event.  Click here to view pics.
