                                TxDOT TOWN HALL MEETINGS

The Texas Department of Transportation

AUSTIN—The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will travel to
McAllen in November to host the second in a series of town hall meetings
designed to encourage feedback from local citizens and officials on
regional transportation needs.

Texas Transportation Commissioner Fred Underwood of Lubbock, TxDOT
Executive Director Amadeo Saenz and other TxDOT and local transportation
representatives will be on hand to answer questions and provide
information on projects and funding, including a brief perspective on
regional infrastructure requirements for the future.

“Based on the Sunset Advisory Commission’s recommendations and a
hard look at our own internal efforts, we know we haven’t been as
effective in engaging the public as we need to be. This is an excellent
opportunity for the citizens of Texas to provide feedback on regional
transportation needs,” said Amadeo Saenz, TxDOT executive director.
“The information we bring back will be used to shape our
discussions on the future of mobility in Texas.”

Saenz noted that the meetings are the first in a series of
communications opportunities to encourage public dialogue on
transportation infrastructure around the state.

“This is a start and a great opportunity for TxDOT to open up the
lines of communication with the public,” he added.

Close to 100 citizens from throughout the region turned out to talk to
the agency during the first town hall meeting in Abilene in October. The
final meeting this year is scheduled for Midland/Odessa. TxDOT plans to
schedule more meetings next year in different parts of the state.
