La Virgen de Guadalupe appeared to Juan Diego, helping to convert the native indigenous Mexican people to the Catholic faith.  Her feast day is an important day in the Mexican-American Catholic’s spiritual life, with celebrations throughout Mexican-American Catholic parishes and communities.

“We will be celebrating the Feast of the Virgen de Guadalupe at St. Peter's Memorial School with reverence and love,” said Dr. Linda Marie Garcia Mitchell, principal for the school.  “The administration, faculty, staff and especially the students, have a lovely celebration planned for this feast day.  Since we live on the border, we are fortunate to be able to celebrate holidays, both religious and historical, not only of the United States, but also of Mexico.  Experiences such as this celebration enrich our students’ lives and make us so appreciative to be bilingual and bicultural,” she concluded.
