United High School Student Honored by U.S. Customs and Border Protection

(Laredo, Texas)-United High School Senior, Julissa Barberena, is the latest recipient of the Leadership and Wisdom Enforcement Award, or LAW Award as it’s known to many, sponsored by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency and Falcon Bank.
Students, staff, and community members joined Julissa and her family for a short ceremony in the campus Library. At the ceremony her Criminal Justice Teacher, Javier Vela, shared a few words on why he nominated Julissa. “Julissa is an excellent student who is a great example for her peers,” he stated. Julissa is not only excelled in Mr. Vela’s class, she also has stellar grades, works, belongs to a church group, as well as participates in other organizations on campus.
Students are selected based on their achievements in school as well as leadership skills they exhibit. The program is a joint partnership between Falcon Bank and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The Leader and Wisdom Enforcem ent Award will be awarded monthly to two deserving high school students from both United ISD and Laredo ISD.
