CBP Officers Seize More than $1.3 Million Worth of Narcotics

Laredo, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers from the Laredo Port of Entry recently seized a significant amount of alleged cocaine and heroin valued at more than $1.3 million during three enforcement actions over the weekend.
“The commitment from our CBP officers in keeping our country safe is evident as they work tirelessly to intercept these dangerous drugs while still processing legitimate trade and travel,” said Port Director Alberto Flores, Laredo Port of Entry.
The most recent seizure took place on Sunday, Jan. 28 at the Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge when a CBP officer referred a 2008 Nissan Sentra driven by a 39-year-old-male Mexican citizen from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon for a secondary inspection. Upon a physical inspection of the vehicle by CBP officers, a total of 25 packages containing 61 pounds of alleged cocaine was discovered.
Another seizure occurred at the Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge on Saturday, Jan. 27, when a CBP officer referred a 2015 Nissan Sentra driven by a 41-year-old male Mexican citizen who resides in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, for a secondary inspection. During a thorough inspection of the vehicle, CBP officers discovered nine packages containing 10 pounds of alleged cocaine and 12 pounds of alleged heroin. A non-intrusive imaging system scan and canine inspection was conducted prior to inspecting the interior of the vehicle.
Prior to that, another seizure occurred at Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge on Thursday, Jan. 25, when a CBP officer referred a 2008 Nissan Sentra driven by a 60-year-old male Mexican citizen who also resides in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, for a secondary inspection. A non-intrusive imaging system scan and physical inspection by CBP officers led to the discovery of 26 packages containing 63 pounds of alleged cocaine.
All three seizures combined have a combined estimated street value of $1,324,640.
CBP officers seized the narcotics and the vehicles. All of the drivers were arrested and the cases were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
