Laredo Sector Border Patrol Initiates the 30th Anniversary of the Youth of the Month Program

LAREDO, Texas – For the past 30 years, the Laredo Sector has been hosting the Youth of the Month program in order to celebrate the academic and civic accomplishments of the youth in the Laredo, Texas community. The Youth of the Month program is the oldest of its kind in Laredo. On September 20, 2017, eleven Youth of the Month recipients were recognized at a ceremony hosted by the United High School.

Michael S. Lata who is currently the Acting Division Chief of Law Enforcement Operations for the Laredo Sector Border Patrol provided the opening remarks at the ceremony held at the United High School. “The Laredo Sector Border Patrol has recognized over one-thousand youth of the month recipients through our 30-year of existence of the program. I congratulate all of you for being selected as the first recipients for the Laredo Sector Youth of the Month 30-year Anniversary, we will continue to honor the youth of Laredo, and on behalf of the men and women of the Laredo Sector, Congratulations,” said Michael S. Lata, Acting Division Chief, Laredo Sector Border Patrol.”

The Youth of the Month Program is a collaboration between school educators and the United States Border Patrol Laredo Sector to recognize outstanding high school seniors and graduating juniors. Teachers from eleven area high schools from the United Independent School District and Laredo Independent School District, to include other area high schools in Laredo, Texas, nominate students that have displayed excellent academic achievement as well as significant community service in the Laredo community.

St. Augustine High School- Jose Carlos Garza
Texas Academy of International and STEM Studies- Genesis Lozano

United South High School- Geoffrey Blomquist
