CBP Officers Continue to Maintain Vigilance and Seize Narcotics Worth More Than $9.7 Million at the Laredo Port of Entry

 LAREDO, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers seized a significant amount of alleged cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine with a combined value of more than $9.7 million recently in three separate enforcement actions.

“These three interceptions of hard narcotics are significant and I am extremely proud of our CBP officers for keeping these dangerous drugs away from our youth,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry.

The first seizure occurred on Friday, Sept. 8 at Juarez-Lincoln Bridge when a CBP officer referred a 2012 Chevrolet Sonic, driven by a 28-year-old male Mexican citizen from El Mante, Mexico for a secondary examination.  Upon a canine and non-intrusive inspection of the vehicle by CBP officers, a total of 10 packages hidden within the vehicle allegedly containing a total of 26 pounds of cocaine, were discovered. The cocaine has an estimated street value of $199,240.

The second seizure occurred on Friday, Sept. 8 at Juarez-Lincoln Bridge when a CBP officer referred a 1999 Ford pickup, driven by a 30-year-old male Mexican citizen from Nuevo Leon, Mexico for a secondary examination.  Upon a canine and non-intrusive inspection of the vehicle by CBP officers, a total of 24 packages hidden within the vehicle allegedly containing a total of 127 pounds of crystal methamphetamine and 226 pounds of liquid methamphetamine, were discovered. The methamphetamine has an estimated street value of $7,056,042.

The last seizure occurred on Thursday, Sept. 7 at Juarez-Lincoln Bridge when a CBP officer referred a 2000 Ford Explorer, driven by a 27-year-old female United States citizen from Pearland, Texas for a secondary examination.  Upon a canine and non-intrusive inspection of the vehicle by CBP officers, a total of 124 pounds of alleged liquid methamphetamine were discovered. The methamphetamine has an estimated street value of $2,487,670.

The seizures combined have a total estimated street value of $9,742,952.

CBP officers seized the vehicles and the narcotics.  All of the drivers were arrested and the cases were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
