CBP Officers Seize Over $3 Million in Narcotics at the Laredo Port of Entry

LAREDO, TEXAS –U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers recently seized a significant amount of alleged cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine carrying a combined estimated street value of more than $3 million in three enforcement actions.
“Not only is CBP Field Operations tasked with processing legitimate travelers, but we must also seek out those with other illicit intentions,” said Deputy Port Director Alberto Flores, Laredo Port of Entry. “CBP has numerous layers of enforcement and our officer’s will go above and beyond to keep these illicit drugs from entering our country and affecting our community.”
The first seizure occurred on Wednesday, April 5, at the World Trade International Bridge when a CBP officer randomly selected a 2001 Freightliner tractor driven by a 37-year-old male Mexican citizen from Dayton, Texas, for a secondary inspection. Upon a non-intrusive imaging (NII) and canine inspection of the vehicle by CBP officers, 12 packages were discovered allegedly containing a total of 27 pounds of heroin.
The second seizure occurred on Wednesday, April 5, at the Lincoln-Juarez International Bridge when a CBP officer referred a 1997 Ford F-150 driven by a 20-year-old male United States citizen from Laredo, Texas for a secondary examination. CBP officers conducted a secondary examination utilizing a non-intrusive imaging (NII) system and canine inspection resulting in the discovery of five packages containing 29.05 pounds of alleged black tar heroin, 30 packages containing 19.58 pounds of alleged crystal methamphetamine and six packages containing 4.54 pounds of alleged brown heroin hidden within the vehicle.
The last seizure occurred on Wednesday, April 5, at the Lincoln-Juarez International Bridge when a CBP officer referred a 2014 Chrysler 200 for a secondary inspection. Upon a non-intrusive imaging (NII) and canine inspection of the vehicle by CBP officers, 28 packages were discovered allegedly containing a total of 51 pounds of cocaine and 19 pounds of heroin.
The narcotics combined carry a street value of $3,089,607.
