American Association Box Scores for Saturday July 23rd

Sioux Falls 6, Texas 1 (Game 1 – 7 Innings)

The Sioux Falls Canaries won their fourth straight as they beat the Texas AirHogs in game one of a doubleheader, 6-1. Sioux Falls received a terrific pitching performance from starter Kris Regas. Regas tossed a 98-pitch complete game allowing one unearned run on six hits with a walk and seven strikeouts. The southpaw notched his fourth victory and is now 4-4 on the year. Offensively for the Canaries, LF Cameron Monger led the way going 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and a RBI. Sioux Falls C Michael Falsetti had a two-RBI double in the second inning while SS Blake Schmit roped a three-run triple in the fourth.

Texas 6, Sioux Falls 1 (Game 2 – 7 Innings)

The Texas AirHogs tallied five runs in the third inning to take a 6-0 lead and would go on to defeat the Sioux Falls Canaries, 6-1 and gain a split in the doubleheader. Texas launched two home runs in that decisive third as LF Burt Reynolds belted a two-run blast with RF Cody Lenahan following him up with a three-run shot. AirHogs starting pitcher Carlos Misell tossed six solid innings in earning his second win of the season. Misell gave up an earned run on four hits with a walk and three strikeouts. For Sioux Falls in defeat, 1B David Bergin scored the team’s lone run with a solo home run in the sixth.

Fargo-Moorhead 7, Sioux City 6

Right fielder K.D. Kang launched a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks a dramatic 7-6 walk-off victory over the Sioux City Explorers. Fargo-Moorhead had a 6-0 lead going into the top of the ninth before Sioux City scored six runs to tie the contest at 6-6. RedHawks LF Brian Humphries went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI while SS Bryan Johns had two hits in three at-bats and two RBI. Fargo-Moorhead reliever Will Mathis tossed the ninth inning and picked up his first victory. Mathis gave up an earned run on three hits with a strikeout.

lemursLaredo 9, St. Paul 3

Trailing 2-0 through three innings of play, the Laredo Lemurs scored nine runs over the next four and rolled to a 9-3 win over the St. Paul Saints. Laredo C Jesus Posso led the way offensively going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Lemurs CF Drew Martinez and RF Denis Phipps each had a pair of hits while 2B J.D. Pulfer scored two runs in a 1-for-3 night. Lemurs starting pitcher Troy Marks notched his third win of the season as he threw 6 1/3 innings giving up two earned runs on five hits with two walks and nine strikeouts. Left fielder Trever Adams went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI for St. Paul in the loss.

Lincoln 4, Gary SouthShore 1

The Lincoln Saltdogs won their fourth straight contest as they used a 13 hit attack to defeat the Gary SouthShore RailCats by a 4-1 final. Lincoln had five hitters with multi-hit games including LF Brandon Jacobs who went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and a RBI. Saltdogs DH Rene Leveret had three hits in four at-bats with 3B Connor Teykl adding a pair of hits and a RBI. Lincoln starter Shairon Martis earned his seventh win of the season and improved his mark to 7-5 on the season. Martis gave up an earned run on five hits in six innings of work. With the victory, the Saltdogs now open up a 5.5 game lead over Gary SouthShore in the Central Division.

Joplin 13, Wichita 12

The Joplin Blasters pounded out 16 hits in the contest and outlasted the Wichita Wingnuts by the score of 13-12. This game was a true slugfest as both teams combined for 25 runs on 30 hits, 12 of which were for extra bases. Joplin 3B Brandon Tierney had a monster game going 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and six RBI. Blasters C Charlie Valerio collected three hits, scored three runs and drove in one while CF Sean Smith launched a home run and plated two runs in a 2-for-5 night. Joplin pitcher Alberto Castillo tossed an inning of relief to nab the victory. For Wichita in the loss, CF T.J. Mittelstaedt hit for the cycle going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Winnipeg 7, Kansas City 6

Winnipeg tallied three runs in the top of the ninth inning to break a 4-4 tie and held off a late charge by Kansas City in the bottom of the frame to win, 7-6. Goldeyes 1B David Rohm and 2B/3B Wes Darvill each had 3-for-5 nights at the plate with a pair of runs scored and a RBI. Winnipeg RF Willie Cabrera plated two runs in a 1-for-3 game with 3B Ridge Hoopii-Haslam chipping in with a double and two runs batted in. Goldeyes pitcher Cameron McVey pitch an inning of scoreless relief to earn his first victory. First baseman Jake Blackwood had four hits in the loss for the T-Bones.
