City of Laredo Statement on District II City Council Candidate Arrest

Courtesy Xochitl Mora,

(LAREDO, TX )  Earlier today, Vidal Rodriguez, a candidate in the run-off election for the position of City Council District II Council Member, was arrested for unauthorized use, obtaining or disclosure of criminal records, a Class B misdemeanor.

Rodriguez is on the ballot for the run-off election, set for Saturday, April 2, 2016.

“Currently, he is under accusation of a misdemeanor offense, he has not been convicted,” said City of Laredo Attorney Raul Casso.  “The criminal justice system is there to test the accuracy of the accusations and that’s where the matter is.”

The City of Laredo Charter provides that an elected official is subject to forfeiture of office if convicted of a felony or a crime of moral turpitude.

The City of Laredo respects the justice system.
